Finding Gratitude in Simple Ways

In September we traveled across the United States. We left California on September 8th in our Class C motor home. We  reached Connecticut in 10 days. We haven’t been back there in many years. However many setbacks happened and we experienced the simple kindness of strangers along the way. Too many to mention here, but we learned gratitude gives us great joy.

While getting gas at a gas station we went into the quick market. While asking for directions on how to find the post office, another customer offered to have us follow him to the post office as he was going that way! A total stranger led us to the post office on his own time!

We have the best friends in Connecticut. A new friend (Joel Harper) treated us to lunch. And a lovely visit. Joel’s mom was visiting from another state, making the visit extra special. Joel wrote a wonderful book years ago, titled “Mind Your Body.” He signed my copy and his kind words were heartfelt. I thank you Joel for our new friendship. And the positive joy you spread. As well as the excellent work you do as a fitness trainer!

Thank you Linda for the best turkey dinner ever. And her sister Pat for a delicious apple pie. Our parents were friends years ago and we became friends long ago! We totally enjoyed seeing them again.

Carol, it was such wonderful experience seeing you again and meeting Don. You are a wonderful friend.

When we reached my husband’s brother and wife’s home it was like we never left Connecticut.  We parked our RV in their driveway. Visiting each day. Jim let us use his truck to visit with other friends and travel around the area to see what had changed.

There were so many other people who willing helped us. Kindness is a simple action everyone can extend to strangers and friends. Try it!

  1. I enjoyed your story illustrating the kindnesses of many, and especially your closing line, which we all need to remember: ” Kindness is a simple action everyone can extend to strangers and friends. Try it!”
