Rechargeable Light Bulbs – Eco-Friendly Lighting

I recently learned about battery operated light bulbs. Since then it seems not many people know about them. Did you? I knew about LED lighting, but not as a rechargeable light bulb. They charge continuously when screwed into the light fixture. No need for external charging unit. Here are the facts about their LED technology.

With the rising costs of using electricity, I thought about finding battery operated lamps. Being open to the possibility the reality of battery operated light bulbs came through a friend who has used them for many years. They illuminate spaces during power outages using stored energy and significantly reduce energy consumption compared to traditional bulbs. Why weren’t they advertised?

Once known mainly for indicator and traffic lights, LEDs in white light, general illumination applications are today’s most energy efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technology. LEDs uses up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

What Are Rechargeable Light Bulbs?

The light-emitting diode (LED) is today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting technology. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting.

By 2035, in the United States, the majority of lighting installations are anticipated to use LED technology, and energy savings from LED lighting could top 569 TWh (tera-watt-hours, a unit of energy that measures the amount of electricity) annually. This is equal to the annual energy output of more than 92 1,000 MW (megawatt, one megawatt is equal to heat or energy one million produced or one thousand kilowatts).

LEDs emit very little heat and CFL release about 80% of their energy as heat. CFL refers to compact fluorescent light. Energy saving lights or compact fluorescent bulbs.

Lifetime LED lighting products typically last much longer than other lighting types. A good quality LED bulb can last 3 to 5 times longer than a CFL.

Under-Cabinet Lighting

Because LEDs are small and directional, they are ideal for lighting tight spaces such as countertops for cooking and reading recipes. Since there can be variation in light color and directionality. It is important to compare products to find the best fixture for your space.

Recessed Downlights

Recessed downlights are commonly used in residential kitchen, hallways, and bathrooms, and in a number of office and commercial settings. DOE estimates there are more than 600 million recessed downlights installed in U.S. homes and businesses.

Basic Technology

Rechargeable light bulbs are LED lights equipped with an internal battery that can be charged and used without an external power supply. The fundamental technology behind these bulbs is similar to regular LED lights but with the added feature of a rechargeable battery. When the power goes out, these bulbs continue to illuminate using the stored energy, making them ideal for power outages and emergencies.

  • The description for Living Glow rechargeable LED bulbs, says that they provide 50,000 hours of LED life which is approximately 45 years.
  • Power cap enables bulb to function like a lantern.
  • When power outage occurs, the bulb’s built-in battery will kick in and keep your home lit!
  • The internal ion battery fully charges after 8 – 16 hours of regular light use and lasts for up to 4 hours. Longer depending upon use.

Amazon sells a package of 6 for $39.90. Which is $6.65 for each bulb. While HSN.com has a 3-pack for $24.99, $8.33 each bulb. My local hardware store sells one for $16.99. Check around your stores and bigger stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Tracker Supply.

They produce less waste because they don’t need to be replaced as frequently. Additionally, rechargeable light bulbs are often made with materials that can be recycled, which means that they have a smaller environmental footprint.

This type of light bulb may not be as bright as traditional ones. This can make them less effective for lighting areas that require a lot of light, such as workspaces or a kitchen. Although the Living Glow brand says they are 60 watts. Some are lower in wattage.

Rechargeable light bulbs have a higher upfront cost than traditional ones. This can be a significant barrier for people switching to rechargeable bulbs. However, it is essential to consider the long-term cost savings and environmental benefits when making this investment. Rechargeable light bulbs have several advantages over traditional lighting options. Including battery life and recharge cycles.
